Wind turbines

Wind turbines convert wind energy into electricity. They work on the principle of the rotor being driven by the kinetic energy of the wind. The resulting rotational movement is transmitted via the rotor shaft to the generator, which converts it into electrical energy. Wind turbines are normally built in clusters known as wind farms. Onshore wind farms are built inland; offshore wind farms are located out at sea. Wind turbines have always been ESM’s core business. Our many years’ experience of vibration control benefits all our products – and hence our clients in not just the wind power sector but also many other industries.

Drivetrain technology

Drivetrain components used in for instance vehicles (cars, commercial vehicles, construction vehicles and rolling stock), tidal power plants, shipbuilding and heavy-duty machinery are exposed to high demands. Safety, comfort and sound insulation have the highest priority – and unwanted vibrations need to be eliminated.

ESM fronts a team of vibration technology specialists and delivers high-precision solutions for elastomeric mounts (including cover mounts, engine mounts, machine mounts, rubber buffers and rubber bearings), couplings, dampers and tuned mass dampers.

Vibrations and structure-borne noise are also undesirable in all areas of mechanical engineering. They can be effectively reduced with smart vibration technology.

Be it earthquake protection, machine acoustics or vibration analysis, ESM offers the right solution for every need. Thanks to our rubber-metal parts, such as dampers, tuned mass dampers and elastomeric mounts (machine mounts), we have the answer for (almost) any challenge.

Construction

Tall buildings and wide-span bridges are vulnerable to structural vibrations because of their size. These vibrations can be caused by the wind, pedestrians and traffic as well as earthquakes and other shocks. Since these types of structures have very low inherent vibration absorption, ESM offers special dampers, tuned mass dampers and elastomeric mounts to effectively reduce vibrations.

Typical applications for tuned mass dampers include pedestrian and vehicle bridges as well as other free-hanging structures spanning wide areas such as stairs, sports stands and factory ceilings. Elastomeric mounts are used for example to isolate elevator shafts and support bridges.
