The drive train makes all the difference

At first glance, modern wind turbines are barely distinguishable from the outside. However, the drive train in the nacelle and particularly its mounting follow very different design principles.

The traditional approach is the compact rotor-gearbox unit. Just as widespread is the more recently developed, partially integrated design, also known as 3-point-suspension.
The separated design, which is also known as 4-point-suspension or double rotor suspension, is being used increasingly in multi-megawatt turbines.
